A Wizard Reaches Out to Carletta During Her Further Descent into Crime

Having succeeded in riding off on a small to medium sized Honda motorcycle, Carletta felt the sheer thrill once again of carrying out an illegal act and apparently ‘getting away with it.’ Except this time, it wouldn’t be possible to get away with it, what with so many witnesses and the Police who were sure to be alerted any minute now.

It wasn’t like her to commit crimes in the open but she had gotten into such a panic when feeling exposed as a fairy and the accompanying storm of contempt launched against her by Anna, who had also rallied up all the other school girls against her that day whilst they were all on a Halloween school trip to the man who was called the Wizard of England, residing under the floors of Guildhall library where the Higher World Contact Archives were kept. And it was true – she was indeed a fairy who was resisting the call of the higher world and posing as a human being.

She would have to start playing nice and smart again if she was to redeem herself from all this trouble. She would try to use a bit of that young girl, disarming charm to get the man to forgive her and would have to promise to give more free gifts, besides the familiar and well loved yellow bonbons to the other school girls in order to calm them down.

Making her way back to the distressing scene she had just created, she was soon seen coming from another street, still on the motorcycle which she was struggling to control.

The man who owned the bike was already on the phone to the Police, as was her school headmistress, Miss Hanrahan.

“Wait!” she called out. “Please help me!” The man, seeing her coming towards him, shoved the phone in his pocket and put both arms out, ready to steady the bike as she drove towards him, now slowing down.

She displayed a fake, traumatised state, sobbing loudly and saying, “Help! I don’t know how to stop it! I’m gonna fall! I’m not a thief! Just doing a trick or treat for Halloween! You didn’t gimme a treat! Nasty man!”

“What the hell?!” he said, “you didn’t ask for a treat! You just stole my bike!”

“Oh, I’m so sorry! It was only some Halloween fun!”

“Okay, Okay.” He grabbed the bike, put the breaks on and helped the young girl in her black fairy costume off the bike.

“Don’t you ever do that again!” he snapped. “You could have killed yourself! Do you realise that, stupid girl?! God damn it! Are you out of your mind child?!

She continued crying with her face in her hands but then coughed, pulling herself together and said to him, “well now you definitely need to give me a treat, otherwise, next time, I really will steal your motorbike.” She then sniffled and rubbed her tearful eyes.

At that, he felt disarmed. That anger and alarm of his began to sweetly turn into a smile. She gave him a mischievous smile and he suddenly burst into a laugh. This girl was as mysterious and amazing as she was endearing. And Oh, thank goodness she was safe, as was his bike.

Miss Hanrahan dashed to the scene, together with all the other girls and Raymond, in his wizard attire.

The headmistress was still on the phone to the Police who were asking for all kinds of details. They simply couldn’t believe that the thief was some little dressed up juvenile from St. Agatha’s Girls’ School. Was this some Halloween hoax? Dressed in a cute fairy costume and riding a black Honda? But they would have to go after her anyway to be on the safe side.

Miss Hanrahan approached. She, the girls and Raymond were all shouting out Carletta’s name.

Carletta said to the man, “can you defend me? Please? She’s gonna be so cross with me.”

“Well, you did a very foolish and bad thing young one. She should be cross with you.”

She put on a sulky face.

Full of anger, Miss Hanrahan shouted, “Carletta! Come here this instant!”

The man turned to the furious headmistress and said, “so you’re the one responsible for this child?!”

“Yes. I’m so terribly sorry sir! We tried our best to stop her!”

“Okay,” he said, “by all means punish her for what she’s done but I’m not interested in pressing charges, so you can forget about the Police. I’m also giving her five pounds to buy herself some sweeties.”

“Oh, come on! Don’t be ridiculous. What’s your name?”

“I’m Derrick and this is turning into quite an afternoon. Like something out of a movie.” He then started laughing again.

Miss Hanrahan shook her head, exasperated.

Anna felt that she no longer wanted to be angry with Carletta and said to the other girls, “okay, she looked so cool on that motorbike with her fairy costume on. Don’t you think so? Come on girls! Let’s give her a round of applause! That was so amazing! The others just followed what Anna said and their angry voices gradually turned into cheering.

But Miss Hanrahan firmly told them in a loud voice to be quiet and began telling Carletta off.

The man said, “she’s traumatised! Leave her alone a while will you? Why don’t you get them all home, safe and sound and we can talk about her and your school, maybe over a drink? After all this, we probably all need to wind down.”

“That won’t be necessary” Miss Hanrahan told him.

She took all the girls back on the school bus where their parents were waiting to take them all home. She also reported the incident to Carletta’s stepparents who were shocked and struggled to believe it.

By now, Carletta was quite the celebrity among the other girls. They believed she was a fairy and a really cool one too. One who could drive a motorbike. And who knows what else she could do? She assured them that she had spoken to the fairies and told them that for now, she wanted to remain on Earth because she liked the people here and wanted to be kind to them. And it was true. She was indeed very kind and generous towards all the other girls. This was partly a cover against any suspicion that she was into the hidden and exhilarating life of crime, but she also was in fact good to them. She also told them that she meant to visit the higher world some time.

None of the adults in Carletta’s life, including of course, Miss Hanrahan, believed that she was a fairy, nor did they believe in fairies at all but Raymond Ashford most certainly did. That extraordinary day Carletta had met him in the archives with all the other school children while on the Halloween school trip had been revealing and he had made sure to get her address from Miss Hanrahan.

He would write to her, trying to get her to renounce her wild ways and return back to the higher world were she belonged and where her real parents and the other fairies were longing for her to return. It was dangerous for any of them to come to our world themselves because of its corrupting influence, but they were reaching out to her through him, Raymond Ashford.

And so, preparing his old fashioned and dated writing materials, he wrote to her in the evening with candle light:

“Most Illustrious young Lady, Princess Stephanie Goldmaracynthia Bell,

Yes, I do indeed know who you are. This is your true title and your real name. Carletta Sayer is simply the name given to you by your stepparents. But you are in fact of the fairy species.

I urgently speak to you on behalf of Her Majesty, Aerilyn Emeralda Bell, Queen of the Higher World Provinces, and your real mother, whom I have not spoken to directly, but whom I have communicated with through an intermediary fairy under her command named Vanessa of Alphiabrook.

As it is proving difficult for them to get through to you, you must let me teach you about Recessive Outer Form Transition by which you must, as soon as possible re-enter the higher world. Every moment you spend here is dangerous. But you have to be willing to go back to where you belong. I sense that while here in the lower world, you are gradually sinking deeper and deeper into a life of crime. This is due to the fact that you are a corrupt fairy. You were summoned here by a meddler in witchcraft during your infant years. But this world tends to have a corrupting influence on fairies, especially if they are not rigorously trained to resist it’s dark pull.

You must let me know if you are willing to be trained in how to return to your home world.

I was assigned to search for you and have been doing so for many years now.

Do not stay here. Things will only get worse for you and for many other people who are of this world. You are the next in line for the Crown of the Higher World. Go back there and claim what is rightfully yours. If you do not, evils may come upon the Fairy Realm. The line of fairy Monarchs must continue.

I eagerly await your response Stephanie.

Eagerly!

Devotedly,

The servant of Her Higher World Majesty,

Raymond Ashford, the Wizard of England.”

Raymond Writes to Fallen Fairy, Stephanie Bell, Urging her to Return to the Higher World

Carletta quietly read the letter whilst in her room and decided not to reply.

But some days later, she changed her mind. Yes, she would reply.

She took paper and pencil and began to write.

“Dear Raymond,

Yes, I sensed that you somehow knew I was a fairy.

I’m not interested in learning how to return to the higher world yet. I know my fairy parents want to talk to me but I find it difficult. This world is dear to me as well as exciting! Please tell the fairies I’m just not ready just yet but I will get round to seeing them some day and perhaps return there for good.

I really don’t know just now Raymond. We’ll see.

Bye for now my wizard friend,

Carletta.

P.S. I’m not yet ready to start calling myself Stephanie.

Stephanie, a Dangerous Fallen Fairy Writes Back to the Wizard of England

As time went on, Carletta got better and better at petty crime, using her same old purple rucksack, featuring Barney the Dinosaur, to bring back stolen goods and continued her custom of waking up in the middle of the night on weekends, to watch DVDs that she had stolen and which were all about crime and how professional thieves and other types of criminals operated and the techniques they used to avoid getting caught. She also looked into how those who were caught used their intelligence and skills to come up with bold and impressive escape plans.

  1. Pretty interesting story about fairy Carletta aka Stephanie.  Crime or crown.  She decided to stay for the crime for now and maybe later she will claim her crown.  Somehow Raymond knew deep deep down that she was a real fairy!  Good job on your post!  I really like your story

    • Thanks Carole! Yes, Raymond studied fairies deeply and is in charge of the Higher World Contact Archives. That is how he was able to discern a fairy from a human. Great you like the story!

  2. I found your blog post about Carletta’s descent into crime and the wizard’s intervention fascinating. The narrative is intriguing, and I’m curious about the themes you explore. How do you think fantasy elements, like the wizard in this story, can shed light on real-world issues or provide unique perspectives? Additionally, your writing style creates a vivid atmosphere. Have you considered expanding this story into a series, exploring the characters and their backgrounds further?

The blending of fantasy and crime themes is a unique approach, and I appreciate the creativity in your storytelling. It’s engaging how you’ve woven a mystical element into a crime narrative. Have you drawn inspiration from specific genres or authors in creating this story? I’m excited to see how the plot unfolds and how the characters evolve. Keep up the great work!

    • Thanks for another great comment. Raymond Ashford is one of few who still believe in the higher species known as the fairies. The Higher World Contact Archives are in his keeping. He represents the advocate for simplistic living and like his friends the fairies, he shies away from modern technology. He is all for inner liberty and rejects materialism.

Yes, this is all part of a longer story. Humm, I don’t actually read that much myself. It’s just a story with a mix of elements including crime, romance and the challenges of redemption.

Sure, if you’d like more, here’s the next part: The Higher World Capital Decides on Whether to Send a Fairy to Earth.

  3. “Dominic, your story ‘A Wizard Reaches Out to Carletta During Her Further Descent into Crime’ is a fascinating blend of fantasy and real-world issues. The character of Carletta, a fairy in the human world, is intriguing, especially her struggle with her identity and the lure of crime. However, I’m curious about the deeper motivations behind her actions. What drives her to continue down this path of petty crime, despite the risks and the opportunities to return to her higher world? Also, the character of Raymond, the Wizard of England, adds a compelling layer to the narrative. How does he balance his duty to the higher world with his apparent empathy for Carletta’s situation in the human world? It would be interesting to see more development on the relationship between these two characters and how it influences Carletta’s journey.

    • This is a great comment, thank you. Yes, what drives Carletta to go her own way, close herself off from the higher world and pursue crime is all down to the fact that Earth has a corrupting influence on fairies. They used to visit us far more often on Errands of Benevolence. Now a fairy must be trained and qualified before risking a descent to Earth. Our world has a pull towards self, vanity, power, etc. Petty crime and being able to get away with it, give Carletta a thrill and sense of power. It also helps distract her from that inner call to the higher world and fills a kind of void. This story now has a new episode: The Higher World Capital Decides on Whether to Send a Fairy to Earth.
