Stephanie Goes To Fairy Knowledge School

(Background info: Princess Stephanie Goldmaracynthia Bell has recently been returned to the higher world after being raised on earth with its corupting influence which led her into crime where she also formed the Safer Streets criminal gang. She is now being educated, despite her reluctance, rebellious spirit and longing to return to earth. She is supposed to inherit the Throne of the higher world when her time comes).

After failing to speak to her younger stepsister, Jane, who remained on earth, Stephanie was told that she needed to understand and embrace her own fairy nature more. In fact, Vanessa knew that she would fail to speak to the young human all along because fairies find it nearly impossible to contact the lower world if they themselves do not possess the inner brightness that comes with being completely free from any form of corruption including a type of earthly contamination that the fairies even developed a special name for.

They called it Decenya Wacha which in the most prominent of the four fairy tongues known as Luminenya, means the Downward Pull.

Besides Luminenya, which used to be the most popular Higher World language before English, which is the most widely spoken Lower World language, was very controversially pushed on the realm by one of the earlier Queens because she liked it so much, the other three less commonly spoken languages were Kephalda, Garnashia and the rarest of all, Zucaniya.

Higher World children usually learned everything they needed to know from their parents. But there were also schools for those who were considered to be more upper-class and the pupils of these schools would usually go on to work in significantly important roles.

The most prestigious school was in the capital, not far from the palace. It was called The College of Elite Practitioners. Unlike on Earth, people weren’t required to be a certain age to enter the college. Deciding which applicants to accept involved a two-step process. They would first be interviewed and if they were successful in this, they would then be observed for several weeks to see how well they performed. After this, they would be given a decision as to whether the college would take them on long term or not. Because it was the highest college in the realm, it was common for applicants of all age brackets and backgrounds to be refused.

It was not impossible for three students to be sitting in the same college building where one was over seven thousand years of age, while another was only in their seven hundreds, and yet another might be only seven years of age.

The college was about twice the size of the Pentagon in the United States of America. It had five sections and was also shaped in the form of a huge white pentagon with gold designs on the walls and circular windows with blue and silver rims. Its Five Sections, which were all separated from each other, were there to cater for the five different age groups of the higher world species.

There was one for children, another for young adults, another for the middle-aged, another for the mature and one for the advanced in age.

A fairy was still considered to be a child when they were fifty years old. But after that, they were considered to be young adults.

But fairy children, even those below the age of ten, usually had the knowledge, maturity, skills and wisdom of an advanced human adult. They were not the typical cute but ignorant little things that we imagine when we think of human children. A young fairy would be well capable of running the most advanced college in our world all on their own at about age eight. But it would have to be a particularly gifted and well-trained fairy.

Some fairies live out a very peaceful and uneventful life without ever learning to use many of the powers of the higher world.

The average lifespan of a fairy is thought to be about twenty thousand earth years. They then pass to what is called the Quiet Place where they have hardly any functions anymore. If they become corrupt which is very rare for fairies, they are banished from the United Provinces and join those who are sometimes called the Disunited Ones because they don’t have the power to form a united body among themselves. For example, they can never seem to decide on a competent leader. And they turn on each other frequently.

They are also sometimes called the Unpeaceful Ones because they are never happy. When they die, they pass to what is called the Dark Place, about which very little is known. Some say it is inside our world and they become troublesome ghosts who spook and oppress human beings. Fairies are not allowed to kill members of the Unpeaceful Ones unless they are being attacked by them. Otherwise, it is murder and their inner brightness fades away and they too must be banished.

Some fairies marry after a few hundred years of being single. They are not drawn to marriage as quickly or as strongly as humans are and many never marry at all. That is why their population is actually smaller than ours. It is rare for them to marry as young as ninety or a hundred. But if they are royal, they might be encouraged to marry much younger, such as in their twenties or thirties and this is done in order to keep the Royal Bloodline intact.

There was even a proposed law which stated that a certain percentage of the population should be obliged to marry. This would mean that some fairies would receive a letter from the government telling them that they had to get married soon. But this proposed bill was met with such massive and furious opposition and protests that it never passed.

Because Stephanie was only in her twenties, she was sent into Section One of the College of Elite Practitioners. And because she was royal, she didn’t have to attend an interview or be assessed on whether she would be allowed to join. The Queen commanded the College to accept her without question and train her among the children in order to teach her humility and submission.

But among the children were many who were older than her. The oldest was a thirty-eight-year-old but she looked like a stunningly beautiful eighteen-year-old. There were some who were age sixteen and a good number of twelve-year-olds. The youngest fairy in Section One who also had a twin that was born just before her, was age six. Her name was Ella Goldshine. She had a piercing gaze, bright bluish-green eyes and bright red hair that came down to her elbows. She was in fact the most promising student in the entire section, despite being the youngest. She was on her way to becoming a Combat Fairy and even at her age, she was already wearing beautiful mini armour that shined whenever light hit against it. They said she needed to get into the spirit and feel of a warrior from her early years. As well as her armour set, she also carried an ornate dagger in a sheath at her side but it wasn’t enchanted because she wasn’t allowed an enchanted one at her age.

Fully fledged Combat Fairies are widely known to be extremely deadly and powerful.

Ella Goldshine, Future Combat fairy at the College of Elite Practitioners

Ella soon used her power of illusion on Stephanie, causing her mind to think that her chair was in its normal place but in reality, it had been pulled back. Stephanie would then arrive to class and go to sit down. But she would miss the chair and fall to the ground, making a disgrace of herself while all the other fairies did their best not to burst out laughing. They were well controlled and usually kept perfectly straight faces.

Another time, after a class during which Stephanie had interrupted anther student, Ella approached and said, “you may have this, my Lady.” It seemed to be a normal drinking vessel with water in it but when she took a sip, she immediately coughed and spluttered because it was in fact a jar of blue ink. Ella then said, “did you think you were supposed to drink that, my Lady? You are indeed most ignorant.”

Stephanie realised what was going on and threw the ink jar at the young fairy but she skilfully caught it without letting any ink spill out. The fact that its opening wasn’t very large also helped. “Why thank you, my Lady. I shall hold on to this from now on then.”

Finally, the other fairies allowed themselves to start laughing with amusement. They also cheered. “Fairy fight! Fairy fight imminent! I’m for Ella! Who’s for Princess Stephanie?! Fairy fight! Fairy fight! I bet she won’t be able to land a hit on Ella!”

But before a fight could start, one of the strictest teachers in Section One entered the class room. It was a male fairy with a short beard and straight blond hair that came down to his shoulders. Male fairies are often referred to as ‘Saltors.’ Humans call them elves but that isn’t what the higher world species calls them. His name was Ennabard Malingale.

He shouted at the top of his voice. “Attention!! Form up! Forward facing! Arms at your sides!

All the fairies quickly stood up straight. He then began firing questions across the room at them. Anyone who failed to answer a question correctly would quickly be put to shame in front of the rest of the class.

He first shouted out a question to one of the sixteen-year-olds. “Yavani! What’s the first step to communicating with a human?!”

She immediately shouted back her answer, “self-searching! Inner brightness is key to successful communication with the Lower World, Sir!”

“Good! Bella! What’s the process and purpose of Condensed Form?!”

“To reduce physical size under the tutorage of a mentor! Purpose of Condensed Form is to avoid intimidating the lower species, Sir!”

“Good! Dennaly! What does R.O.F.T. stand for?! And for what purpose it is used?”

“Sir! Those initials stand for Recessive Outer Form Transition! It is the primary process by which higher world members transition physically to the Lower World!”

“Good! Stephanie! Repeat to me the formulas for three flameless combat forms of energy harnessing used by Combat Fairies!”

But Stephanie’s rough and rebellious nature kicked in once again and she shocked the entire class with her reply. “Dude! Shut up! Instead of shouting at me, go and interrogate that little rat in the corner! Ella over there!”

Ennabard was completely taken aback. “How dare you!!” he yelled. But he then looked over at Ella and said, “I could sense there was conflict between you two but that is something that fairies must deal with among themselves. I am here to teach. But can you confirm that there is still tension between you and the princess, Ella?”

“Oh yes sir, there is! I am playing with her to teach her to be more alert. She walks into a class of fairies like we are all school children of earth! We need to teach the princess to respect us and stop behaving like a stuck-up human girl.”

“Well, Stephanie? Any reply for Ella? This is good for the others to hear. Debates are good but I want no petty arguing. Give a rational reply. And don’t let emotion cloud your judgment or control your speech. Logic is higher than impulse.”

“Okay,” said Stephanie, “well, besides her good points, I honestly think Ella is nothing more than an annoying, troublesome little rascal looking for attention because she has confidence and security issues, being so young.”

Ella was seen to squint her eyes at this but because she was a fairy, her mind focused on what was said and how objectively true or false it was rather than on how to get back at the speaker.

Ennabard folded his arms and said, “that is a thought-provoking reply, Lady Stephanie. But before we let Ella respond, does anyone else have any input here?”

There was silence for a moment. Most of the other fairies were loath to say anything against Ella or anyone at all for that matter. They sometimes engaged in light gossip but not slander or unfair remarks.

But after a brief silence, Ella’s twin sister, Agnes Goldshine, an armoured, blonde fairy who was also on the way to becoming a warrior said, “I believe what Lady Stephanie said about Ella was both impulsive and incorrect.” Ella nodded in approval while Agnes continued, “however, if Ella is a good fairy, it seems fitting that having made her point to Her Majesty’s daughter, both she and I should befriend her and do all in our power not only to correct her as mildly as possible, but also to help further her education within the college. I should participate in this friendship because I am the sister of Ella.”

Agnes Goldshine, twin sister of Ella Goldshine

Ennabard then said to Stephanie, “you see? Fairies can be quite reasonable.” He then turned to Ella. “Well, Ella? The floor is yours again.”

“I agree with Agnes. We should now befriend Lady Stephanie and all work towards the common good from this moment onwards. But first she must retract her remarks about me or I will subject her to further trouble within this classroom and also outside it when she is least expecting. She must overcome herself and renounce her errors one way or another. I mean come on! Hear me, all of you. I can clearly sense that she is still infected with Decenya Wacha!”

The entire class murmured in agreement among themselves.

Stephanie noticed the two twin fairies staring at her to see how she would react.

“Promise me something, Ella.”

“Proceed my Lady. Promise you what?”

“Never to play any more of your cruel tricks on me. Only then will I renounce what I have said about you and accept both your friendship as well as that of your sister, Agnes.”

“Then it is done. You have my promise, my Lady, and our friendship will commence as soon as you have taken back your misinformed remarks.”

“Well although I still kind of think you deserved what I said…”

“Renounce your remarks, Lady Stephanie! Now! Or we cannot be friends! You were in the wrong!”

“Okay, fair enough. I suppose you’re right. I renounce what I said in calling you a rascal with confidence and security issues. And for saying that you are simply an attention seeker. I now accept your friendship.”

“Good. Now are you ready for the friendship embrace, my Lady?”

“Uh, I think so. Yes.”

“Okay, now crouch down to our level because you are a lot taller than us. Then I will approach first and we will embrace. Then my sister will follow in the same fashion.”

Stephanie smiled. This was all very formal and personal. The funny thing was how sincere and serious they were about it. And also how open they were, being all too happy to make a public display of their friendship and affection.”

She did as Ella told her and lowered herself to her level. Ella then came over and gently hugged her. Once this was done, Agnes came to Stephanie and they also embraced.

When this was done, Stephanie noticed a male of about age twenty-one looking at her but she found it very hard to read the message in his still, serious and unblinking eyes.

But at last he spoke. “I too shall be your friend, Lady Stephanie. If you accept me that is. My name is Debenwa Lowlyheart.”

She thought for a moment and then said, “oh, well, yes, but um… does…. does that mean we also have to embrace?”

“It does indeed, my Lady,” he said matter-of-factly.

“Oh. Okay.”

He then came forward solemnly and they too embraced.

She continued to wonder whether the mysterious saltor had hidden feelings for her but he was too difficult to read for the time being and the smile he gave her was beautifully charming and warm but somehow, didn’t quite feel romantic.

Ella then said, “Lady Stephanie, do come and spend time with Agnes, myself and Debenwa after this class.”

Stephanie smiled graciously. She then coughed a little. “Okay. That… that sounds nice.”

Then all the serious fairies turned their attention back to their teacher, Ennebard.

  1. Hey Dominic,

I just finished reading your engrossing story, “Stephanie Goes to Fairy Knowledge School,” it is a delightful mix of depth and whimsy. The narrative follows Princess Stephanie as she faces obstacles and develops in a magical world, emphasizing the complex relationships between people with an emphasis on understanding, growth, and the value of friendship. It is intriguing to observe how concepts like self-improvement, humility, and the complexity of social norms are examined in such a fantastical environment. The interactions between Ella, Stephanie, and other characters provide a rich terrain for discussing self-discovery and how one’s actions affect other people. I was curious as to why you chose to examine these topics within the framework of a fairy tale and how these allegories of modern problems improve the narrative?

    • Thanks for your great feedback here Sara. You are very insightful and see many themes and other things when you read. Originally, this was a fairy-tale for kids but then I started rewriting it so now it’s more suitable for adults and maybe fifteen-year-olds as well. It explores positive as well as dark themes. For example, there is a chapter on the Dark Witch and her background is a fairly chilling read.

  2. Hey there! Just stumbled upon Stephanie’s adventure to fairy knowledge school on your website, and I’ve got to say, it’s pure magic! 🧚‍♀️ Your storytelling skills whisked me away to a whimsical world where fairies reign supreme, and I couldn’t help but get lost in the enchantment of it all. Stephanie’s journey of discovery is not only delightful but also brimming with valuable lessons about friendship, perseverance, and the power of imagination. I found myself rooting for her every step of the way! But here’s something I’m curious about: What inspired you to delve into the world of fairy lore and create this charming tale? It feels like a labor of love, and I’d love to hear more about the creative process behind it. Thanks for sprinkling a little bit of fairy dust into my day—I’ll be eagerly awaiting Stephanie’s next adventure!

    • Thanks for your great comment here Bob. Great to know that you were able to escape reality for a while by this read. You were asking what inspired me to get into fairy lore and how my creative process works. I got into this fairy genre by mistake. I wanted to write something for my niece who loves fairies and then discovered that I really liked fairy-tales myself. Yes, it is a labour of love as you say. I just get ideas during the day and while I’m at my writing station and some stay in the story while others may be removed and replaced with other ideas.

  3. In “Stephanie Goes to Fairy Knowledge School,” the narrative uniquely blends the complexities of growth, friendship, and acceptance within a fantastical setting. The story presents Stephanie, a princess torn between worlds, navigating the intricacies of a realm that demands she embrace her fairy nature. The interactions with characters like Ella and Agnes Goldshine are especially poignant, highlighting the journey from conflict to camaraderie.

The tale excellently captures the essence of character development and the power of understanding. Stephanie’s transition from a defiant princess to one willing to learn and grow is compelling and reflects broader themes of personal growth and acceptance of one’s heritage and responsibilities.

Moreover, the detailed description of the College of Elite Practitioners and its unique educational system adds a rich layer to the world-building, immersing readers in the Higher World’s culture and societal norms. The concept of Decenya Wacha as a form of corruption is intriguing and adds depth to the challenges Stephanie faces.

However, while the narrative’s depth and the complexity of relationships are engaging, the pacing might benefit from tightening in places to maintain momentum. Additionally, exploring the internal conflicts and emotions of characters like Debenwa Lowlyheart could enhance the narrative’s emotional resonance.

Overall, the story is a fascinating exploration of growth, acceptance, and the power of friendship set against a backdrop of enchanting fantasy. With a focus on refining pacing and deepening character exploration, it promises to captivate readers further, drawing them deeper into Stephanie’s journey and the magical world she inhabits.

  4. And so the plot thickens as the fairies try to convert Stephanie to their ways and more fairies are introduced. Amazing that they are still considered children when most of us are hitting middle age. Also amazing that a ten-year-old fairy can be as mature as an adult and in some cases even more so.

Twenty thousand years is an awfully long time to live.

  5. It has been very interesting to follow princess Stephanie on her journey back from earth, and settling back into life in the higher world. Getting educated forms part of the everyday lives of most fairies, so it is natural to see Stephanie progress to fairy school.

The interaction at school with other fairies,is very similar to normal school, with playing tricks on one another, and even getting into arguments and fights. Debating is interesting against the background of the fairy world and I will follow Stephanie’s progress through her schooling.

  6. Hi there,

Thank you for sharing this fascinating insight into the intricate world of fairies and the Higher World.

It’s intriguing to learn about the complexities of fairy nature, particularly the concept of Decenya Wacha and its significance in communicating with the lower world. The diversity of languages and the educational system in the Higher World, particularly The College of Elite Practitioners, adds layers of depth to the understanding of fairy society.

The description of the college’s structure and the varying age groups it caters to is truly captivating, highlighting the unique lifespan and capabilities of fairies. Additionally, the notion of peaceful versus eventful lives among fairies, as well as the consequences of corruption, provides valuable context to the dynamics within the United Provinces. Your depiction sheds light on a world rich with tradition, hierarchy, and the eternal struggle between unity and discord.

    Thanks again
