Visiting The Higher World Contact Archives on Halloween

(Note to Reader: This story is suitable for adult fantasy lovers and also for school kids. Enjoy.)

Carletta Sayer, the popular ten-year-old who was always top of her class in every subject but also full of kindness to the other girls, had been looking forward to a school trip that was to take place just before Halloween. She was known to be the generous girl who never argued over trivial things and liked giving away her yellow bonbons which she would bring to school with her. The other girls knew that if ever a squabble broke out, it would be Carletta who would resolve it and restore peace and friendship among them once again.

As it was the Halloween season, they were allowed to dress up in all kinds of fantasy costumes. Carletta had spent a long weekend making wings from wire and silk which she sewed onto some of her nicest dresses so that she could give them to any girl who wanted to attend the school trip dressed as a fairy.

The school bus would be taking them on an exciting trip that day to Guildhall Library where they would all get to meet the man who came to be known as the Wizard of England. He dwelt underground where he looked after and updated the Higher World Contact Archives that spanned back to ancient times and documented mankind’s dealings with a superior species that came to be known as fairies. But for a long time they had stopped visiting Earth due to its corrupting influence and were now all but disregarded and forgotten about.

Raymond Ashford, who dresses like a wizard, is the last remaining member of the Order of Custodians and can communicate with the superior species.

As it turned out, one girl named Kira started crying when she saw all the others dressed in costumes and complimenting one another as they waited to get on the bus. She had forgotten to take her one out of the car and now it would probably be too late to get it since her mum had driven off. She told Carletta that she didn’t have any costume to wear.

Carletta, as always, had a solution. “Oh, don’t worry about that Kira. I think a fairy must be looking out for you today.”

She then took three impressive looking fairy costumes out of her bag and asked her to choose her favourite one. Kira took the green and gold one and mumbled a shy, “thank you.”

Another girl called Anna said, “Hey Carletta? Why is your fairy costume black? That’s silly! Fairies don’t wear black.”

Carletta shrugged. “I’m dressing up as a dark fairy today.” No one really understood but with that, they all climbed onto the bus.

Little did any of them know that Carletta Sayer was a proficient juvenile criminal and clever thief. The bonbons that they all loved so much were stolen by her as was the silk and costly dresses that she was prepared to give to the other girls. She wasn’t interested in possessions so much herself but she liked the thrill of stealing and realised that she was becoming quite the pro at it. She also liked giving things to other people and seeing their grateful reaction. But this outward generosity of hers was tainted because she used it as what she deemed to be a perfect cover against all suspicion that she might be into the exciting, secret life of crime.

It was her custom to go to bed early on Fridays so that in the middle of the night, she could sneak downstairs in the home of her adoptive parents and play movies and documentaries which were all about crime and the techniques used by professional thieves. She learned that most juvenile criminals were generally a lot less competent and sophisticated in their techniques and strategies than she was.

As the bus made its way to Guildhall Library, Carletta grew increasingly excited. She was dying to see whether there was anything significant about this so-called wizard and whether he might think there was something special about her, since she had moments when she sensed a mysterious, loving influence gently calling to her despite her rather cold heart.

After reflecting on it for longer than usual one day, in an attempt to make sense of it, she thought, wait! I might be a fairy! She often tried to communicate back to that inner voice but her own mind told her that to keep listening to it and trying to engage with it was plain silly and that someone who was as clever as she was, shouldn’t be falling into such childish delusions and making up fairy-tales about herself. A kid that likes going around stealing is no fairy from Lala Land, you fool, Carletta, it would say. Learn to shut that voice out. Such elaborate daydreaming is a bad sign. Stop compromising your sanity.

She thought back to the time when, to prove to herself that she was right not to pay attention to that inner voice, she had travelled five miles by bus to a relative who had a son whom she knew was intelligent and truthful, despite not being socially developed. She didn’t knock on the door but waited until Tony, the son, was in his usual outdoor chair by himself. She then climbed over the fence and approached him. She remembered their interaction word for word.

“Excuse me, Tony.”

“Due to what?” he murmured in response.

“Look at me.”

He looked at her and blinked. “What about you?”

“Do you think I’m a fairy?”

“Define fairy for me.”

“A superior species similar to humans from another world with unknown abilities but with those which are beyond human abilities and capabilities.”

“I need to carry out an assessment of your abilities in order to give you the correct answer.”

Carletta explained to him every area of her life where she believed she was in some way superior or more gifted than other humans.

He went silent for some time.

Tony sits outside. Carletta knows he is autistic and may tell her whether she is really human or not.

“Well?”

“I’m still thinking.”

She paced up and down, worried that his mother might come out soon and see her in the garden. She eventually got too scared to stay where she was and went to hide in the bushes.

She later called out to him from the bush, “Do you have an answer yet, Tony?”

“Yes. I conclude that in you we have signs of fairy nature but there is something wrong with you at the same time. For one thing, you appear to be afraid of the truth. You should first accept what you are and then seek the help of your own kind.”

“Okay, Tony. Thank you.”

“You are welcome.”

“But are you sure that’s your conclusion?”

“I can re-evaluate but the confidence I have that my conclusion will be the same, based on what information I have, is somewhere substantially beyond the region of the last whole number on the percentage number line. We’d be well into the decimal points subsequent to ninety-nine by then. But if you provide new or updated information, that may change my perception.”

“Alright, well, bye for now. Don’t tell anyone I visited, please.”

“Why not?”

“Just don’t, please.”

“I need an answer as to why not.”

“Umm…”

“You seem conflicted. Take your time with your reply but make sure it is accurate.”

“Okay, like you said, I’m afraid of the truth. If people think I am asking whether I’m a fairy, they will laugh at me.”

“That doesn’t matter. Provided your arguments in favour of possessing a fairy nature are watertight, you will be able to remove the foundation for laughter and confront them regarding their lack of insight.”

Carletta couldn’t help laughing quietly to herself after hearing this. She sighed, feeling happy but also rather silly.

“Ah, this has been pleasant anyway.”

“How so?”

“Bye, Tony.”

“I’m afraid I must conclude that you did not find this interaction to be overall pleasant. But goodbye.”

“No. I did! Honestly!”

“I need to know what drives you to regularly say things which you do not mean. I suggest you consult an ethics specialist to help you overcome your tendency to lie.”

He then proceeded to write down the contact details for an accountability coach.

Carletta shook her head and climbed over the fence. She then made her way back home, feeling rather unsettled once again.

It was a fact that her adoptive parents, Teresa and Julian noticed that she was strangely skilled at things that usually only someone twice her age would be skilled at. They questioned whether she might have some kind of condition but there was also a very ordinary side to her and she was not socially awkward, though she wasn’t drawn much to physical affection. At home, she even had a dress code that she kept to. This most commonly consisted in a black hat that was slanted, often covering her left eye with its shadow, a black velvet and lace dress with a stiff collar that covered her neck, black tights, black shoes and usually a pair of black gloves that exposed the finger tips. Around her neck she used to wear a silver chain with a pendent that featured a being of destruction known as the Bull of Flames but this was taken away from her by Teresa.

A couple named Julian and Teresa adopted an unidentified infant and named her Carletta

The image on the pendent was disturbing enough to get confiscated but only Carletta knew what the tiny inscriptions on the back read:

‘I am he who reigns

I am one whom no one tames

Whom no one ever restrains

Power and strength are in my veins

I am Darkest Night, the Bull of Flames

And I bind you all in spikes and chains.’

She liked the idea of dark, dominant and powerful beings and considered getting hold of another pendent of the same make which she would wear under her clothes to conceal it from her mother. But in the end her prudence got the better of her and she decided to be ‘safe rather than sorry.’

Arriving at the H.W.C. Archives

There was a lively atmosphere of excitement as the girls were led by their headmistress, Miss Hanrahan into the library and shown the way to the wizard’s trapdoor. They were given the code which they would need to use to get access to him.

The code consisted in tapping with one’s foot on the top of the trapdoor which could only be opened from underneath. There had to be six taps altogether with a pause between every two taps. The visitors would then need to stand back and wait for the wizard to respond to the code by opening the trapdoor that led some forty feet down into the dimly lit archives.

When they reached the area behind a large shelf where the trapdoor was located, Miss Hanrahan said, “Well children, who’s going to do the honours?”

They all shouted, “me!” Except for Carletta who just stood there and smiled.

“See how patient Carletta is?” said the headmistress. “Because she isn’t making a commotion or being selfish, she will give the code.”

Carletta rolled her eyes rather sarcastically and said, “Oh no, it’s okay. You can let one of the others do it.”

“No Carletta. You will do as you’re told and give the code. Now come on. Tap your foot right there. Three times two taps.”

By now all the other girls were staring at her.

With a shrug, Carletta got into position and then tapped her foot loudly and clearly above the trapdoor. The code was given correctly and she stood back, meaning to position herself behind the other girls. But Mis Hanrahan stopped her.

“Stay where you are Carletta. Greet him and introduce yourself and then the others, please.”

They began to hear footsteps approaching from under the floor. Carletta squinted her eyes as a voice in her head told her that she might be ‘exposed’ that day but that she still had the option of escaping before being ‘discovered.’ However, not feeling much fear and partly led on by a sense of adventure and curiosity about what might happen next, she decided to stay where she was. Then with a slight creaking sound, the trapdoor opened up, revealing Raymond Ashford, the Wizard of England; one who had been asked nearly nine years ago by the Higher World Monarch to search for the missing firstborn.

His eyes fell on Carletta, the mysterious, dark eyed figure in black. She looked up at him with a look that for a brief moment betrayed a stunning wisdom and maturity but which she then quickly tried to mask by assuming a cute and childlike expression. He froze and his mouth nearly dropped open. He sensed that subtle presence which he knew was only proper to the Higher Ones but which in this girl’s case was also mingled with a dark and rather sinister energy.

Although she was still a young girl, he knew that caution was the best policy. She could still be dangerous. The policy was to never, ever trust a stray fairy, no matter how young. If trained by a supervisor, even a very young one would be capable of channelling destructive power. And if a young one were to be self-taught, things could get even more messy. He then swallowed hard, repressing his emotion, as he began to realise that he might have finally found her; the one who had evaded both him and his ethereal contacts for close to a decade: Princess Stephanie Goldmaracynthia Bell.

Mystery girl, Carletta Sayer, whom Raymond identifies as Princess Stephanie from the Higher World

As if reading what was on his mind, she began to smile knowingly and this caused his heart to leap again with a kind of wild excitement laced with fear. Surely, he had found the missing princess from the forgotten world and could finally report something positive to Vanessa. But he would still have to be sure it was her, and he would do his best to discover what could possibly be going on in her dark little mind.

There was then general distraction as all the other girls erupted into excited cheering after seeing the charming wizard standing tall and majestically at the entrance of the trapdoor.

The headmistress prompted Carletta to give the greeting and introduction, and the young pupil did as she was told.

Taking a deep breath, she said in a confident tone, “Well, hello master wizard. Meet me and my friends. I’m Carletta…”

“Really?”

“Mm-hum, yes. And we are from St. Agatha’s Girls’ School.”

He decided to continue observing her for the time being. Later he would attempt to have a personal conversation with her and gather as much information as possible.

“I see,” he said. “Well, come on down then, all of you. Welcome to my humble abode where I maintain the ancient Archives that date back to the early history of mankind’s dealings with the Higher Ones whom nowadays we call the Fairies.”

All the girls except for Carletta squealed again with excitement as they began to follow him down under the trapdoor and into the mysterious, large area filled with documents and old books.

The H.W.C. Archives are underground and accessed via a trapdoor with a code system.

One of them shouted out, “Hey! But can we see any fairies today, Mr. Wizard?!”

“Yes! We want to see a real fairy!” shouted several others.

“I’m afraid that is unlikely,” he answered. He then muttered, “unless of course one of you turns out to be Stephanie; a name which means Crown or Garland, no less.”

“Shhh! Be quiet!” said Carletta to the girl in front of her who was now clapping her hands to see if any fairies who might be hiding nearby would take fright and expose themselves.

Carletta then added, “Firstly, they don’t live in this world, silly, and secondly, they don’t like noise. So, stop with your hellish racket, Mave.”

“Carletta! Be nice!” said the headmistress.

“Being nice isn’t always the best strategy, Miss.”

“Hey! Don’t answer back like that!”

Carletta shrugged. Mave then turned around and scowled at her. “I bet they don’t like cranky people like you, either.”

“Whatever. As I said, you don’t seem have the first clue about fairies. All they’ll get from you is drama and a headache.”

“Girls! Stop arguing!” shouted Miss Hanrahan. “I’m surprised at you Carletta. What’s going on with you today?”

Raymond turned and glanced at Carletta who squinted her eyes before looking away. He began to worry that he might have been mistaken about her. Maybe she was just some clever and somewhat cheeky human girl and not the one whom he desperately hoped she was. His heart sank at the unbearable thought of having to give yet another negative report back to the fairies. When they reached the bottom of the staircase, he looked at her again.

“What?!” She asked bluntly.

“He examined her expression and muttered half to himself and half to her, “Could you be her?”

Feeling anxious, she walked past him and joined the other girls.

They were fascinated at the old documents and books that took up row upon row of shelving. There were seemingly endless accounts of human encounters with beings from the Higher World throughout the centuries. Some rows were far too high up for them to reach and one section was focused on the different gifts and powers that fairies were known to possess.

A Section of the Higher World Contact Archives, stored under the floors of Guildhall Library in London.

Another was on fairies of royal bloodline and how their rank came with greater powers than standard and lower ranking fairies. Another section was on some of the different provinces within the Higher World that had been revealed to men. There was vast amounts of content on Alpheabrook, the ‘Royal Province,’ Garlandwood, a realm of many elaborately constructed tree house dwellings, Maracynthiavale, where Alchemists were particularly popular and where the three types of the rich Maracynthia plant family were found. Some fairies bore middle or last names after the province itself or after one of the types of the Maracynthia plant. There was Rosemaracynthia, Goldmaracynthia and the more rare Bluemaracynthia plant.

Carletta looked in awe as she saw a Royal Fairy’s name mentioned in a section called ‘Most Recent Archives.’ It read: ‘Subject of Supreme Priority: Stephanie Goldmaracynthia Bell. Rank: Royal, Firstborn. Daughter to Queen Aerilyn Emeralda Bell. Subject’s Father and Sibling(s): Unknown. Subject’s Knowledge and/or Experience of Higher Ones/Fairies: Unknown. Subject’s Knowledge of Humans: Unknown but Presumed to be Proficient. Subject’s Ordinary H.W. Powers: Unknown. Special Powers: Unknown. Proficiency in Royal Bloodline Inherited Gifts: Unknown (Likely Untrained). Previous Location: Alpheabrook, H.W. Capital. Current Location: Unknown. Age: On July 7th, 2002, she, Stephanie, will have turned 9 Circuits Old (10 Earth Years). Current Status: Missing. To Quote the Capital, she is ‘Officially Believed by Every Member of the R.S.U. (Royal Spokespersons Unit) to have been Summoned to the Rough Coordinates of S.A., Y.K., Senya Angloyana, Yaronie Koobla (South England, Lower World) by a currently undefined method of malevolent witchcraft.’ Subject’s Threat Level to Humanity: Unknown but Potentially High if Subject is Corrupt and Not Reclaimed by Her People. Danger to Higher World if Subject is Not Returned: Potentially Moderate to High Due to a Rupture in High Family Bloodline and a Detrimental Weakness Brought on by Grief in the Current Reigning Monarch. Subject’s Last Known Contact: Clarissa Ironhand of Alpheabrook, Defector, Combat Specialist and Former Second in Command of the Elite. Locating P. Stephanie G. Bell is of the Highest Priority and the Importance of Reclaiming Her is of Extreme Magnitude and Gravity.’

After this followed another section of writing that was titled ‘Official Report From Solitary Member of the Custodians of the Higher Ones, Raymond Ashford.’ This was Raymond’s written account of how the long and difficult quest to find Princess Stephanie had fallen to him.

After reading all this, Carletta began to understand that Raymond probably thought she was Stephanie of Alpheabrook, all the way from the Higher World. It felt true. But that would mean that she was also a Princess. A sublime and powerful being who must eventually inherit the Sceptre and Crown of the entire United Provinces of the Higher World.

Blood rushed to her face and she glanced about to see who was watching her, but everyone seemed occupied and distracted. She moved a little further along, breathing fast and feeling her face tingle with wonder and joy. She gasped and whispered sharply to herself with intense excitement, “I really am a Fairy! I knew it! I feel it! I’m a Fairy Princess!! One day, every loyal fairy will be under my command! I’m going to be a Queen! Uh… I need to learn more! How do I travel to the other world…? And what about my family here?” She began pacing up and down and exchanging glances with Raymond who was cautiously observing her from a distance. She also looked around for more revealing documents or books to read from. Some were written in other languages. She thought about climbing up one of the shelves to where a large book with a dark red cover and brass seals on it was lying all by itself.

“Don’t wander off Carletta,” said her headmistress.

Suddenly, she began to think of everything in a new light. Wander off? She broke into a cheeky smile and thought, before you know it, I’ll have wandered all the way off to another world… like I’ve done before, apparently.

Looking up again at the large red book, the thought suddenly came to her that if she was a fairy, there must be an easy way to get it. This made her heart jump again with excitement. But sadly, she couldn’t think of anything except asking an adult to get it for her. She was about to ask someone when another thought came to her. Why not try to climb to the top when the wizard and Miss Hanrahan are distracted?

An old book on a high shelf catches Carletta’s attention

“I’ll be back soon,” said Miss Hanrahan, and bustled off to get herself a coffee. Raymond was being plagued by question after question from the other girls. Carletta went up to the tall shelf with a despondent sigh. But after examining it, she decided that it would be possible to climb if she removed her shoes. After doing this discreetly, she found that she was able to quickly and quietly ascend to the top. Once there, she immediately set her hands on the old book. It took up part of a section called ‘Forbidden Material.’ Only Custodian members who had permission from their supervisor were allowed to read such material since the books there were thought to contain possible errors.

After opening the book and taking a look inside, she realised that it was mostly the random notes of a Custodian member. He was simply writing about his life and about various things he had learned. He also wrote about how he had engaged in conversation with a fairy named Halworatheen. But towards the end of the book, there was a section in which he wrote down various prophesies. Some of these concerned wars that might have taken place on Earth were it not for the influence of certain members of the Higher Ones. Others centred around individuals. But there was one prophesy that stood out among them all and made Carletta’s blood run cold.

It was titled, ‘When Stephanie Shall Strike,’ and read: I clearly foresee that at the dawn of the Twenty-First Century, there will come a terrible fairy from the higher world. She shall be all the more formidable due to her royal bloodline. She shall grow up stealing and deceiving, and shall reject the fairy species together with her place as its ruler, leading to its demise and shall raise an empire of brutality, crime, manipulation and bloodshed on Earth. This will come to pass because the people of that time shall be shallow and materialistic, having forgotten the benevolence of the Higher Ones and fallen out of contact with them. She, the Scourge of that time, shall dress herself in black attire and the symbol of Fire and of the Bull shall hang from her neck. If therefore, you discover this fairy, my brethren and sisters, depart far from before her face, lest perhaps you fall under her spell and perish.

She shall look hauntingly humanlike and you must therefore be most discerning and watchful. My heart goes out to all those victims who shall live on this earth at the time when she shall strike. This knowledge is tormenting me. I live with a broken heart. She shall break many hearts, both human and Higher Ones alike.

I even see a Victim List that a secretive and mysterious man (whose name escapes me) will write in the future, documenting human casualties (many of whom shall be innocent and undeserving of death) of one Stephanie Bell and another female striker whom she shall train to kill for her. This other striker will be proficient in the use of the most advanced long-range firearm of that time, (the Military Graded, U.S. and U.K. Issued MK 13 Sniper Rifle) with which she will claim many lives; oh, so many lives. Other killers loyal to Stephanie are also involved. But I can only see the first ten names on this list. It is in fact the terrible List Number 7 of 82. For there are 82 Lists in total, each one of which is significantly larger than the last. The details of the rest are hidden from me. But here is just a little part of list number 7 that I can clearly see in my mind and that I know someone will write down in its entirety one day. It is a long list:

(Victims who Die or are Critically Injured as a Direct or Indirect Result of Stephanie’s Criminal Empire are all Counted on this List).

Victim List Number 7 of Black Angel (Stephanie Bell) and Assassin Keltolkia and Others Who Serve Under Stephanie Bell (Nine Hundred and Twenty-Seven Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Nine Victims on This List: 7 of 82. Unlike Other Lists, Not a Single Victim on List no. 7 Was Deserving of Death. All Victims Either Died or Were Critically Injured in Under a Single Year):

Luke Parker – Deceased. Killed by Keltolkia. Method: MK 13 Rifle Round.

Damion Price – Deceased. Killed by Keltolkia. Method: MK 13 Rifle Round.

Abel Thomson – Deceased. Killed by Keltolkia. Method: Strangling.

Denis Jones – Deceased. Killed by Keltolkia. Method: MK 13 Rifle Round.

Julian White – Deceased. Killed by Stephanie. Method: Zastava M57 Pistol Round.

John Butler – Deceased. Killed by Stephanie. Method: Flames of Unknown Origin.

Killian Black – Paralysed for Life by Keltolkia. Method: Unknown Drug.

David Halif – Deceased. Killed by Keltolkia. Method: MK 13 Rifle Round.

Judy Halif, Wife of David Halif – Deceased. Killed by Keltolkia. Method: MK 13 Rifle Round.

Jamey Billings – Deceased. Killed by Stephanie. Method: KA-BAR 1121 Throwing Knife.

16 Undocumented (Likely South American) Individuals: 15 Deceased. One in Critical Condition. Attacked by Stephanie and Keltolkia. Methods: Toxic Nerve Gass, High Calibre Browning Machine-gun Fire and Stabbing.

Carletta’s mouth dropped open in sheer horror. She blinked several times as she allowed what she had just read to sink into her mind. She then proceeded to read it again and again while all kinds of damaging thoughts and toxic emotions rushed in on her and led to pitiful tears of self-loathing and despair. Part of her thought that she could possibly prove the prophesy wrong, but it seemed so convincing and so real that she couldn’t help believing in it. Her unusual intelligence told her that it was indeed true and that where a human would foolishly deny it due to ego and ignorance, she could see that it was only logical to despair of proving it wrong. It had the marks of truth and she was simply going to have to live out her dark destiny. And after all, maybe the human world did need a wake-up call. Maybe it did need to be punished.

“Carletta! Where are you?!” Miss Hanrahan abruptly called out after coming back into the large room with a takeaway coffee in her hand.

“I bought some toffies for you. Make sure you share them as usual with the other girls.”

The other girls were all listening to Raymond who was talking to them about fairies. They would then talk over each other and frequently argue over whose turn it was to ask a question.

Carletta heard her headmistress but couldn’t answer. She was in a desperate state of turmoil and could only make a small sound, “uh…”

“Are these your shoes, Carletta? Come on! Where are you?!”

But for a while there was only silence.

“Uh… here,” she said at last.

“Where?! Enough of this hide and seek.”

Miss Hanrahan then looked up and saw a girl stretched out inside the top part of a shelf that stood twelve feet high.

“Is that you, Carletta?!”

Again, there was silence. The entire area they were in was very poorly lit. But the headmistress was just about able to make out the black fairy costume with its slightly crumpled little wings. Yes, that was Carletta alright.

“Goodness gracious, Carletta! Did you climb up there by yourself? You need to come down. Now! Bring me a ladder or something, someone.”

Raymond came over and looked up with dismay. Carletta had obviously been reading something forbidden and he sensed that she was troubled as a result.

“Raymond,” said Miss Hanrahan, “you were supposed to keep an eye on her! Now, please find something. A chair maybe. And then reach up and lift her down.”

But Raymond slowly shook his head. “I do apologise but, since she has got up there by herself, she will also come down by herself. Trust me. There is more to this girl than meets the eye.”

As he finished speaking, Carletta blurted out, “It’s okay! Stop making such a fuss, Miss!” She then began climbing down.

“Don’t fall!” came another concerned yell from the headmistress.

“Oh, just stop it!” Carletta answered in a deeply annoyed tone. She then jumped the rest of the way and Miss Hanrahan screamed as the girl came crashing down onto the floor.

But she was soon up again and said, “I’m okay! No need to worry.” She then sheepishly put her shoes back on.

Carletta then tensed up with reluctance as the woman came to hug her. “Oh, you foolish child! Never, ever do that again!”

“Okay. Can you let me go, please.”

Raymond waited patiently until Carletta was free from that annoyingly tight embrace before locking eyes with her and asking, “young lady? What was it you were reading?”

“A journal,” she answered quietly before looking at the floor. She then looked up again and added, “and some prophesies.”

He nodded gravely and slowly but didn’t say anything further.

Halloween-loving schoolgirl could turn out to be a highly dangerous stray fairy and future killer of countless human beings.

  1. The introduction of Carletta’s dual identity as both a generous, kind girl and a clever thief adds an intriguing layer to the story. It keeps the reader guessing about her true nature. The blend of magical elements, such as wizards, fairies, and a Higher World Contact Archives, creates a mystical atmosphere that fits well with the Halloween theme. What grade level would you suggest reading this to? As a high school teacher I am thinking they would like it – did you imagine it for that audience?
Also, as a writer, I do wonder about Carletta’s complex character, she has both admirable traits and a hidden, darker side. How do you develop such multifaceted characters in your stories?

    • Hi Debby, thanks for the comment. Yes, high schoolers would be the right age group for this but adults seem to enjoy it as well. The previous book which this story is based on is more for children. The complex character of Carletta is based on a character I created and developed in another ‘first version’ of Crime or Crown which is no longer available as I am rewriting the story.

She’s a wayward fairy princess. She is a superior being from a higher world but our world has a corrupting influence. This was the previous chapter to the one you just read: The Wizard of England and His Search for a Missing Fairy.

  2. Your story had an intriguing twist, taking us from a heartwarming tale of a kind and generous girl named Carletta to a surprising revelation about her true identity as Stephanie Goldmaracynthia Bell, a juvenile criminal with a penchant for stealing. The transition from innocence to cunning deception was unexpected and kept me engaged.

The concept of a missing fairy princess was captivating, and the way you introduced it within the narrative was clever. The contrast between Carletta’s outward appearance and her hidden abilities added depth to her character.

I have a question for you: What inspired you to create this unique blend of childhood innocence and the world of hidden fairy royalty intertwined with a young thief’s adventures? It’s a fascinating mix of elements, and I’d love to know more about your creative process.

Overall, your storytelling is imaginative and full of surprises. I look forward to hearing more about the development of this narrative or any other stories you might have in the works.

  3. This story is filled with unexpected twists and turns that keep the reader engaged from beginning to end. Carletta’s double life as a seemingly generous girl and a skilled thief adds an intriguing layer of complexity to her character. The revelation that she might be a missing fairy princess raises many questions and leaves the reader eager to know more. The story’s fast-paced and action-packed scenes, like Carletta’s daring escape on a motorcycle, add an exciting element to the narrative. Overall, it’s a captivating and mysterious tale that keeps you guessing at every step. What inspired you to craft such a complex and unexpected twist in the story? How do you plan to explore her character and storyline further in the narrative?

  4. Hi Dominic,
I haven’t read fiction in years as I am mainly a non-fiction reader. So I was pleasantly surprised to read your story about a fairy pretending to be human. Although it was a lengthy story, I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next. I have signed up for your next instalment. Life is so much better with a bit of magic and fantasy
I liked your illustration of the little fairy in black. She really is a naughty little character. I look forward to hearing more of her adventures.
    Cheers John
P.S. Your link to your book on Amazon does not work.

That’s true, the link to the Amazon book doesn’t work anymore. This is because I have unpublished the book and am writing it again. So I should remove the preview from the site.

Sorry the story was long. It is a possible Chapter 2 of the new book. Here is the first chapter if it interests you: The Wizard of England & His Search For a Missing Fairy.
